THE NEXT morning Philip received a text that read, âI hope you enjoyed last night as much as we did. Take care, my love, Iâll be in touch soon L x.â
Beset by shame and the fear of losing Laura, Philip somehow got through the day. He tried writing but couldnât concentrate for even a minute, and looking at photographs of his wife swept him up in horrible waves of loss and regret. He went for a long walk which helped a little but when he returned the house was still empty, and loneliness greeted him like a vengeful spirit.
In the early evening he received a text which plunged him into an even deeper state of distress â âSarahâs invited John and I with Lyn and some friends for a meal tonight. I imagine weâll be back quite late, but I need you to pick me up tomorrow morning. Be here at ten. Sleep in your cot tonight. L xâ
He hated the idea of Laura and John being seen by others as a couple. It would cement their relationship in the eyes of others, and reduce him to a distant, inconsequential figure. It made him feel as if he was fading away, turning into a living ghost, and yet to his despair, the feeling aroused him and turned another key in the locking-chains that bound him in servitude to his faithless wife.
He spent a miserable, stress-filled evening, his mind full of images of John and Laura talking and laughing happily around a dinner-table with Sarah and her friends. A part of him detested his wife for treating him so cruelly, and yet he went to bed in his cot as sheâd commanded him, dressed in the slip she had him wear as his baby-frock, and with her worn panties pressed against his nose and mouth, and her tauntingly soft hose pressed around his erect cock. He came quickly but slept very badly, tormented throughout the night by vivid erotic dreams and images. He saw himself bound by his cuffs in his cot, and he imagined the dinner-party was taking place downstairs instead of at Sarahâs house. He could hear the sound of music and distant voices as if they were real and then, much worse than that, the sound of footsteps climbing the stairs to his nursery room. One by one, Laura brought in her guests to see her Baba, pointing out his pretty night-dress, and telling them that he used to be her husband but was now her baby and house-maid and would never again be permitted to live as a man. Some laughed, others expressed sympathy, but no-one did anything to help him. When he tried to complain and ask for help, Laura just fitted his gag into his mouth and fastened it so tightly behind his head he could only make foolish gurgling sounds. âSssh, now, Baba,â he imagined Laura saying, âno-one wants to hear what a silly little baby has to say. Lie still and keep quiet or Iâll have John come upstairs and deal with you.
